eMail: FREDGPOPS@aol.com

My greatgrandparents are from Periamos. Jacob FRANK and Kathrin BITTENBINDER lived there in the mid-1800's. Children included Mary FRANK who immigrated to Chicago in 1915, Elizabeth who also immigrated to Chicago about 1913, Hans FRANK, Johann FRANK who married Magdalena FASSBINDER, Franz FRANK who married Theresia MARTIN and Nikolaus FRANK.

JENSEN, LARRY R.
eMail address: LJensen@aol.com

Areas of research: Bukovina and Bohemia.
The particular towns I'm working on are Bori, Gurahumora, Illischestie, Paltinossa, and Stupka in Bukovina; but I'd be glad to correspond with any other Bukovina researchers. The village of Bori, in the Austrian crownland of Bukovina, was colonized in 1835 by a group of Roman Catholic, German-Bohemians that emigrated from around the towns of Rehberg, Seewiesen, and Bergreichenstein in the Bohemian forest (now Srni, Javorna, and Kasperke Hory, in the Czech Republic). Today, Bori is part of the town of Gura Humorului, Suceava, Romania.

I am seeking to trace all the descendants of these colonists. If you think you have information that may be related to the following families, please reply by e-mail, directly to me.

KALYNIUK, IRENE
eMail address: irene.k@sympatico.ca

I am looking to trace a person by the name of Janosz BOSZO. He may or may not be alive today. He was a member of the Austro-Hungarian army, and would have been stationed in what is now Western Ukraine (near the town of Rohatyn, Ivano-Frankivska oblast) in May or June of 1917. I would guess he was born around 1895. I was hoping I might determine his origins through Austro-Hungarian military records, and would appreciate any suggestions as to how I could begin this search. Aside from the fact that he was considered a Magyar, and that he was in this part of Ukraine during the first world war, I know nothing and have no living sources of information.
Webmaster's note: While there are extensive holdings of Austro-Hungarian Army records on microfilm at the FHL, I know of none that have been extracted. The only index I have found on microfilm is an officers index to one of the many collections. A key to finding useful information in this mass of unindexed records is to know the military unit he served in. A lecture on these Austrian military records is being given at the FEEFHS 1997 Convention by the person who indexed the FHL microfilms. Listed in the FEEFHS online Professional Genealogist Database is Roger Minert A.G. who specializes in Austria research and is also speaking at the convention. He might be able to find the records you seek.

KANI, E. EDWARD
eMail address: 71034.2071@compuserve.com

I have a great deal of information about my KANIs moving from Abenheim/Worms to the Batschka in 1768, although I don't know as yet where they lived before Abenheim. I have thought that perhaps the female lines (wives of my KANIs) might point to other German towns for research. So the surnames listed below are of my g-grandmother and so on.

Kernei, Batsch-Brestowatz, and Apatin in the Batschka

BRENNER, FAITER (FEITER), HIGELI (HUGEL, HUEGEL, HEIGEL), and DUBA

KEMLE, DAVID
eMail address: Kemle@msn.com

My ancestors left from Germany for Mramorak (which is 35 km east of Belgrade) in the early 1800's. My father, Philip, was born in Mramorak in 1900, gf in 1875, and ggf in 1852 all in Mramorak. And gggf was born in Kleinsachsenheim, Germany in 1814 to Johann George KIEMLE and Magdalena Barbara WERNER who emigrated to the Banat. They first went to Bulkes before going to Mramorak. I still have several distant relatives living in Kleinsachsenheim and in other parts of Germany. The name was KIEMLE but the name was changed to KEMLE when Johann George went to Hungary with his family. I have traced my father's lineage back to about 1600 when Melchior KÜMLIN from Durrweiler Amt Schwarzwald had his son, Martin who was born 1622, married Christina SCHELLING in 1646 in Kleinsachsenheim.

My mother, Christina DAPPER, had ancestors from Gross Bieberau (SE of Frankfurt) who emigrated to Mramorak in 1820 and who were part of the original 12 families to settle in Mramorak as border guards. I also have relatives from my mother's side in Germany. My parents emigrated to Canada in 1929 and I was born in Calgary Alberta. I am searching KEMLE, KIEMLE, KUEMLIN, KÜMLIN, KIEMLEN, KIEMLIN, KIMMLIN, KÜMBLIN, KUEMBLIN, and DAPPER. I am also interested in SCHELLING, SPETH, SCHLOTTERBECK, HOOSS, JESSER, SENGLIN and SCHOLLENBERGER.

KLEIN, GARY L.
eMail address: flashno1@wwnet.com

I am researching the (Zsombolya) Hatzfeld, Banat and (Hidasliget) Bruchneau, Banat region of Hungary.

In Hatzfeld, the surnames are: KLEIN, BUCHOLTZ, YOST or JOST, and KRAEMER
In Bruchneau, the surnames are: KELLER and SCHAVILLIE

I have tried the Latter Day Saints (FHL) Microfilm of the area, but it goes only up to 1860. I need it to go to October 1865. That is when John KLEIN was born.

KOSTIZ, M.
eMail address: mkostiz@ainet.com

My grandfather and namesake came to this country just after the turn of the century, about 1905, from Budapest, Hungary. His Americanized surname became Kostiz. I have yet to find any Hungarian surname close to that. I have looked in census records, sought surnames on the internet with no success. He lived and worked around Easton, Pennsylvania for a couple of years before moving west and ultimately northern California. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who may know the original spelling of the Hungarian surname.

Researching the following names:

The families all resided in the village of Jahrmarkt around the turn of the century. I suspect that they emigrated from Germany in the 1700s and 1800s.
